All principal and interest on the loan was paid in January 1999. Covance Health Economics and Outcomes Services, Inc. Covance ; provides health care reimbursement consulting services to us. We paid to Covance $0, $431, 662 and $693, 844 for such services in scal 2001, 2000, and 1999 respectively. Dr. Strauss, one of our directors, was the Executive Vice President of Covance through 1999 and currently serves as a Senior Consultant for Covance. Our Bylaws provide that we are required to indemnify our ocers and directors to the fullest extent permitted by Delaware law, including those circumstances in which indemnication would otherwise be discretionary, and that we are required to advance expenses to our ocers and directors as incurred. Further, we have entered into indemnication agreements with our ocers and directors. We believe that our charter and bylaw provisions and indemnication agreements are necessary to attract and retain qualied persons as directors and ocers.
